Cooking at Eden

From AUD $55.00
  • Duration: 120 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: Rentapau
  • Product code: PJCJYQ

On arrival, you will be met by our friendly, welcoming staff, who will introduce you to the story of Eden on the River” and “Yo Ku”, our tourism and farming
property.

During this tour, you will learn how to make simboros, a delicious local delicacy loved by all. Guides will demonstrate traditional preparation and cooking
methods for making simboros, after which you will make their own.

Once you have assembled the ingredients and the food is cooking, the guide will wander with you through the kitchen gardens; you will learn where the
ingredients come from and how you are harvested; manioc, island cabbage, lap-lap leaves and coconuts.

The garden walk will take you past the pepper and vanilla vines, the pineapple plantation and the local fruit and vegetable garden. You will also see how kava
is grown and learn a little about the importance of this drink in Vanuatu culture.

Back to the kitchen, where you will learn how to make your own coconut milk. Coconut milk is an important ingredient in many island foods; you will scratch (grate) the coconuts to produce shredded coconut flesh, then squeeze and strain their own coconut milk.

Once they are cooked, you will eat the simboros and finish with a tropical fruit-tasting platter; you are then at your leisure for swimming or wandering the gardens and playground.
