Join us at Eden on the River, south Efaté’s most established tour attraction, for an interactive and informative experience, learning all about kava, a traditional drink that plays an important role in Vanuatu Kastom and daily life.

On arrival at Eden on the River, you will be met by our friendly, welcoming staff, who will brief you on the background of Eden & Yoku.

The tour will start at our reception and take you on a short walk down to YoKu’s kava fields, where you will see how kava is grown. The guide will brief you about the ‘Noble” varieties of kava, and you'll be able to see how the young plants are protected and raised in their early years. The walk will also pass through the kitchen garden, where you can see pepper and vanilla vines being grown, as well as the pineapple plantation and local fruit and vegetables.

Along the way, the tour guide will entertain you with custom stories about kava and the cultural differences in how kava preparations and traditions vary across different islands. The walking tour will return to the café where you will watch as kava is prepared in different ways and the guide will show  you some of the many products made from kava. If you wish, you will also get to drink a small shell of kava. The kava drink will be accompanied by a “wasem moat”. “Wasem moat” is food or drink taken immediately after kava to remove the taste of kava from the mouth. Our wasem maot is served as a delicious tropical fruit-tasting platter. Following the demonstration you are then at your leisure for swimming or wandering the gardens and playground.
